Perodua Enters Bangladesh Through Partnership With PHP Motors

PHP Motors will unveil four Perodua models at an event in the capital on May 9. Mohammad Akhtar Parvez, Managing Director, PHP Motors shared, “We are introducing Perodua ARUZ, a 1500cc 7-seater SUV; Perodua Bezza, a 1329cc sedan; Perodua MYVI, a 1500cc hatchback, and Perodua AXIA, a 1000cc hatchback. These models are also available in Dhaka. It will make its debut in Chittagong by the end of the month.”

Last month, PHP Motors ended its partnership with Malaysian automaker Proton and signed a new deal with Perodua to launch its lineup in Bangladesh.

“We plan to eventually roll out 6 Perodua models. Initially, we will focus on assembling and launching four car and SUV models for the Bangladeshi market. Further launches are in the pipeline,” Akhter explained.

He emphasized that Perodua would be delivering a Japanese technology which would be very useful for meeting the needs of people from Bangladesh. For 16 long years in a row, Perodua has been the top player in the Malaysian market with a 60% market share.

PHP Motors is all set to shift its focus to Perodua while committing to providing after-sales services for Proton cars under the warranty agreement. “Our agreement with Perodua allows us to continue servicing the Proton vehicles we have sold previously, which is a testament to our dedication,” confirmed Akhter Parvez.

With over 400 employees, PHP Motors operates a factory capable of assembling 36 vehicles per day over three shifts. He added that first, we assemble the engine and then paint the cars in our factory.

On the aspirations of selling cars Made in Bangladesh,” Aktar acknowledged the challenge due to the wide range of components required. “Although local spare parts production is not yet possible due to low demand, with the help of stakeholders, we aspire to realize this dream,” he revealed.

Established in 2015 with an investment of Tk 400 crore, PHP Motors’ factory in Chittagong became operational in 2017 and began assembling vehicles. Chittagong achieved a 20% market share in the sedan segment. The factory has been running at full capacity since 2019 capable of assembling 1,200 units annually.
