Bangladesh is moving towards a prosperous future with a sustainable transport system through large-scale investment. Bangladesh Auto Industries, a subsidiary of Mango Teleservices, is investing Tk 1,440 crore in setting up Bangladesh’s first electric car manufacturing plant.
Located in the Bangabandhu Shilpa Nagar Economic Zone of Mirsarai, Chittagong, the factory will bring electric vehicles to the market by March next year. The cost of setting up this factory will be 790 crores. 10 banks are providing a major part of this money through the formation of two financial alliances.
The rest of the capital will be provided by the entrepreneurs. Its infrastructure has already been completed. Necessary equipment and materials are now being installed on 100 acres of land.
About 75 percent of the total investment will be invested in building the vehicle body, battery, motor, and charger manufacturing structures.
Besides, the remaining 25 percent will be spent on importing interior design materials. Various vehicle bodies including SUVs, sedans, and buses will be manufactured at this plant and another separate factory called Bangladesh Lithium Battery Limited will also be set up. The batteries produced in this factory will not only be used in electric vehicles but also in solar power, data centers, and UPS. Motor control and charging systems will be built in another factory called Mango Technologies Limited. These factories will provide employment opportunities to 1,500 people initially.
Later, the manpower can be increased up to 5 thousand in keeping with the increase in production. In this factory, according to the plan, 60,000 two-wheelers, 40,000 three-wheelers, and 30,000 four-wheelers have been built.
Entrepreneurs associated with this project expressed the opinion that these cars will be marketed under Bangladesh’s own brand. There are also plans to introduce charging facilities at various petrol stations across the country.
These vehicles will be constructed to provide maximum comfort to the users. Interior design products will initially be imported from abroad and the company will create the world’s best cars by perfecting the combination of these materials.
