IFAD Autos Achieves Milestone Of Producing 10,000 Commercial Vehicles

In a modest ceremony held at the plant in Dhamrai, located adjacent to the Dhaka-Aricha highway on Saturday (15 July), the milestone was commemorated, as stated in an official press release. The event commenced with Iftekhar Ahmed Tipu, the Chairman of IFAD Group, cutting the ribbon and cake. Distinguished representatives from Ashok Leyland’s operations in Bangladesh and India graced the occasion with their presence.

The manufacturing facility specializes in producing a wide range of models, including air-conditioned (AC) and non-air-conditioned (non-AC) buses, trucks, and covered vans, all under the prestigious Ashok Leyland brand from India. It stands as the largest commercial vehicle manufacturing plant in the country, brought to fruition through private enterprise.

Reflecting on this momentous occasion, Iftekhar Ahmed Tipu expressed, “Today is a joyous day for IFAD Group. Given the prevailing conditions in our country, venturing into the production of heavy vehicles was an immense challenge.

Through meticulous planning, tireless effort, and the collective dedication of all parties involved, IFAD AUTOS has triumphed over this challenge. Moving forward, IFAD Group aims to lead the way in manufacturing vehicles incorporating modern technology.”

He also remarked, “In recent years, Bangladesh has made revolutionary strides in the field of heavy commercial vehicles. The escalating demand for such vehicles has necessitated increased imports, incurring significant foreign currency expenditure. To address this, IFAD Autos Limited established the Dhamrai factory.”

Furthermore, he highlighted that while the plant initially began by manufacturing vehicles, it has now expanded its operations to assembling top-tier AC and non-AC luxury buses. He expressed optimism that the annual production capacity of automobile bodies, currently set at 1,000, will soon experience further growth.
